Reflections on Rough Draft

1) What value are you trying to represent? We are trying to represent courage and honesty.
2) What do you think your group has done well? I think our group has done a really great job at working together. All of us have taken on responsibilites and we have all done our part in the work. We also have done a good job of using our time wisely, and planning out our video making.
3) What do you still need to complete? We still need to add in music, titles, credits, and some small editing.
4) What are you most in need of feedback about? We want to know if our video runs smoothly, or if it is a bit choppy.
5) We filmed during two days. The first day was successful, and our camera worked well. The second day, when we tried to use a different camera, the camera wouldn't film. We had to quickly go get another camera to film with, and successfullly finished filming that day.
Another issue we had was that after we edited our rough draft, it wouldn't upload onto youtube and our blog. When we finally got it uploaded, the screen of the film was very small. It was because of a format setting we had done the wrong way. We had to decide on how we wanted to fix this with limited time.
As I am typing this, the other members of my group are re-editing our video in the correct format so we can upload it. Time is precious.

Reflection Questions for Over the Shoulder Assignment

We weren't able to post our video because it was filmed over, but when we filmed we realized that a lot of though and planning goes into each of your shots before hand. You can't just pick up a camera and start shooting a bunch of shots without any thought at all about how you want it to come out. We planned different shots for different dialogues and parts of the film.

I would say that the group whose video we used followed the rule of thirds pretty well. The character not speaking could have been shifted over just a tad. But it was done pretty well.

The over the should shot puts the focus on the person's face that is being shown. It shows their expressions and makes the viewer feel like he's really talking to the person. Because the only visible part of the other person is the back of his/her head, the viewer's focus is immediately drawn to the face that is "over the shoulder".

The girls' dialoge does not seem very realistic, because their voices aren't very enthusiastic, at some parts. Some challenges were making all the little clips flow together, and making the conversation seem real.

The mood and tone in the film is suspensful, like the viewer's aren't too sure what exactly the news is. This was achieved by the pauses between the two girls' voices. The mood at the end of the film is happy, due to the smiling face of the girl recieving the money.

I really like using this type of shot. I never really realized how much it is used in famous films untill I started learning more about it. I began to notice it in many deep conversations in films. It adds a realistic effect.

I learned from doing this exercise, that we need to plan and think more about what shots we will use and how that will affect the mood and character image BEFORE we start filming. Different shots change the whole perspective from the viewer's point of view.

Reflection on Holiday Greeting Video

1. I felt that my partner and I did a really good job on time-management. We always stayed on task, even while coming in after school. Our goal was to make the most out of our time. I also think we did a great job on editing the sound of our voices. We had a problem at first: our voices were much too quiet. We did not project our voices enough. So using soundbooth, we made our voices louder. It took a lot of work, but came out great in the end. I also think we were creative in choosing our music. It was unique music that we knew no one else would use in their video.

2. I would have liked to add a little message at the end of our video, in our credits. I would have liked to add our names at the end of our video, but we forgot to. I liked that some other groups did this because it added a nice closing.

3. I showed Cristabel how to use EasyBib for photos, and helped create our citations. I also gave input on which music and colors to use. I helped choose the set in and out points as well.

4. I helped show my partner how to make different bibliographies, and met up with her outside of class to work when needed. My partner always helped me stay on task when working, and always reminded me of the limited time we had, which made me work harder.

5. If given another chance, I would film all over again, with more projection in my voice, more enthusiasm, and more eye contact with the camera. I would also make the music fade a bit more in the end of the video.

Reflection on Our Cyberbullying Group Video

Our rough draft was finished and presented to the whole class Tuesday, the fifteenth.
Out project began on a rough start... when each of us in our group had troubles on our workshops, which procrastinated our project.
We only had 20 minutes of filming time, by the time each one of us were finished with all of our workshops.
We were pretty satisfied when we realized all the information we had collected after watching our film.
But as we began editing our film, we realized that our whole filming had been just of Elissa and I sitting down talking. There was really no action, and both Jorge and Alexis weren't in the film. But we couldn't go back and re-film. We were already running out of time. So we edited what we had the best we could, trying not to make it seem like a monolague. Alexis and I, the last day decided to make our film mostly pictures, hoping to make it less boring.
But when we had no time to add any music, or cool effects, our video ended up just what we feared.

We were pretty proud of our credits though- we put a lot of time and effort into them.

So now, after we saw how much more work we need to put into our film, we've decided to put in music, add a little more effects, and hopefully get in a bit of an interview. I'm sort of worried that we may not be able to acomplish all that in just one class period. But, all we can do is try our best, and hope for the best.

Title By Using Template

This is an example of an template title, which means that I used an already-arranged title, which was created by the premiere program. You might use this kind of title when you want to save time on creating the title. This allows you to already have a background and design already made; all you do is type in the name of the title. This also lets you use a higher-quality looking type of title.

Custom- Full Screen Title

This is an example of an custom-full-screened title, which means I am able to choose whichever color background, type of font, and word placing I want. This also means that my title will appear and end before my actual clip begins,instead of during the play-time of the clip. You might use this kind of title when you don't want to distract your audience from any of the action of your clip. This type of title seems more like a grand entrance.

Overlay Lower-Thirds Title

This is an example of an Overlay title, which means the title of the clip appears while the clip is playing, and should end before the clip ends. You might use this kind of title when you are sure the title will not completely distract the viewer from the whole clip. Perhaps when the clip is showing something that does not have much action in it.

Editing Clips in the Timeline: Deleting, Lifting & Extracting Clips Workshop

A simple cut in the timeline means that you right-click the clip you want to remove, and select "Cut". When you cut, the other clips in the timeline remain, but the space where the clip you cut is left, empty.
A ripple edit is when you delete a selected clip, and no gap is left behind, in between your other remaining clips. You do this by right-clicking on the clip you want to remove, and clicking "Ripple Edit". When you ripple delete, the other clips to the right of the deleted clip shift over, leaving no gap in between the clips. The remaining clips close up the gap where the deleted clip previously was.
Lifting and extracting are two ways to delete portions of clips, yet keep the remaining parts at one time. To do this, you select in and out points (the portion you want to delete), on your selected clip. You then click on the "Lift" button on the program panel to delete your selected portion, AND leave a gap. To delete a selected portion of a clip and shift the other clips over, you select your in and out points, and then select the "Extract" button on the program panel.
Lifting is like a "Cut" in the timeline, while extracting is like a "Ripple Edit" in the timeline, in terms of what happens to the other clips in the timeline.
This is an example of an extracting edit. I decided to extract the two clips where I did because I thought it would allow the clips to flow a little better together, instead of having unnecessary time in the videos where nothing extremely important was going on.

Overlay and Instert Edit Workshop

This is an example of an Overlay edit. An Overly edit places a clip over another, taking out the clip it goes over. To do this, you drag the first clip and put it over the part of the second clip that you want to take out. I decided to overly the part the 2nd clip where I did because I thought it would be a good place to put the first clip instead. It gave more of a suspensful effect, and deleted some unecessary parts of the second clip.



This is an example of an Insert edit. An Insert edit places a clip in the second clip without deleting any part of the second clip. To do this, you drag the first selected clip and drag it where you want it to appear in the second clip. It goes in between two parts of the second clip.It does not delete any part of the second clip, like Overlay does. I decided to place the part of the first clip into the 2nd clip where I did because it added a break from the part of the video where the horse was running. Yet, none of the second clip was deleted.

The difference between an overlay and an insert edit is with overlay,you place your first clip over part of your second clip, and that part of the second clip is deleted. With insert, it allows you to place your first clip into your second, without deleting any part of you second clip.
You would use an overlay when you want to substitute part of your second clip with your first clip, while you’d use an insert edit when you want to just add the first clip to the second clip. In this case the insert edit works better because it allows you to add your first clip to your second clip, without deleting any of your second clip.

SBHS Student Life

I think I am getting better at my computer skills.
I did a good job of making a title.
I'm so happy with the way I worked with my partner.
I should have followed instructions a little better.
If I could do this project over, I would take more time to follow each instruction.
On my next project, I need to remember to read the blog for instructions.
On my next project, I would like to learn how to finish everything quicker.

One way I helped my partner was to give my ideas on which videos to choose.
My partner helped me by figuring out how to upload our video.
On this project I gained a better idea about how to save files. What helped me figure this out was to learn from my past mistakes.
One challenge we faced was finding our video.
We overcame this by asked the teacher for help.

My final project reflection :)

So yesterday Elissa and I almost finished our final project. We chose three of our favorite clips that we viewed. We then put them all together, along with a title. Now we just need to upload the video onto youtube. We'll do that next class. Sometimes it's a little hard to finish everything in a time frame, because doing this stuff for the first time takes a lot of time. Once I got the hang of how to edit the videos and drag them to the time line, I saw how simple it really was. Overall, yesterday's experience went pretty smoothly. I'm definitely learning a lot about computers and media presentation in this class.

Our class today, August 25, 2011

Today, in block 1, of Teledramatic Arts Class, we attempted to post our videos of ourselves onto our blogs and youtube.
It was certainly a challenge.
As Cristabel and I worked on putting my clip up, we first
Couldn't figure out why the sound wasn't working...
Couldn't figure out how to drag the clip...
Couldn't figure out how to place the title before the clip...
Couldn't remember my google password...
Then finally, we got it.
But as we attempted to put my clip up on youtube...
youtube failed to upload it.
But still, I agree we both learned a lot more than we knew before ...
And of course, we'll keep trying till we get it all right...








We finally finished our project. It was a little confusing, but we worked together to finish. Now I know a lot more than I did before about how videos are made. Dr. A's video on how to do the project was definately a big help. I would like to learn to edit/upload videos a lot more smoothly.
